Fuels of the Future
The global fuels market will see a dramatic shift over the next 10 years. Despite its steep reduction in demand in 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, global liquid fuel consumption is expected to surpass pre-pandemic levels sometime in 2022. Stricter fuel specifications, a changing vehicle fleet, the growing role of alternative fuels and the potential for a tightening crude market will determine developments of the fuel market through to 2030 and beyond. Europe has been leading the way towards cleaner, lower-emission fuels. The proposed Euro 7 standards are set to feature even stricter rules on emission levels for all gasoline and diesel cars, vans, trucks and buses. Other industrialised regions of the world are likely to follow. The pandemic has also accelerated the trend to decarbonise, reduce emissions and incorporate renewable fuels.
Hengli Petrochemical Company Successfully Starts up New Alkylation Unit Designed by DuPont Clean Technologies
WILMINGTON, Del – DuPont Clean Technologies (DuPont) is pleased to announce the successful startup and performance test of a 300 KMTA STRATCO® alkylation unit licensed by DuPont at the Hengli Petrochemical Company (Hengli) new refinery complex, Changxing Island Harbor Industrial Zone, China.
Sinopec Qilu Successfully Starts Up DuPont™ STRATCO® Alkylation Technology
WILMINGTON, Del. – DuPont Clean Technologies (DuPont) is pleased to announce that the STRATCO® alkylation unit at the Sinopec Qilu refinery in Zibo, Shandong Province, China, successfully completed the performance test, certifying that the unit is meeting required performance guarantees. The STRATCO® alkylation unit at Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Qilu) is designed to produce 400 kmta (10,300 BPSD) of alkylate product from a MTBE raffinate feedstock and enables production of lowsulfur, high-octane, low-Rvp alkylate with zero olefins that meets the criteria of the China V standard.
Sinopec Successfully Starts Up Two DuPont™ Stratco® Alkylation Technology Units
WILMINGTON, Del., – DuPont Clean Technologies (DuPont) is pleased to announce successful performance tests for the STRATCO® alkylation units at the Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Company (ZRCC) refinery in Ningbo, Zhejiang, China and the Yangzi Company (YPC) refinery in Nianjing, Jiangsu, China. These
performance tests certify the STRATCO® alkylation units are meeting performance guarantees. The ZRCC and YPC STRATCO® alkylation units both process MTBE raffinate feeds and are designed to produce 7,700 bpsd (300 kmta) and 7,500 bpsd (300 kmta) of alkylate, respectively.
Reducing Acid Consumption: Maximizing Sulfuric Acid Alkylation Unit Profitability
Alkylation is a process used to produce highly branched isoparaffins from the reaction of lighter olefins and isobutane in the presence of sulfuric acid as a catalyst. This highly branched isoparaffins is called alkylate – a blending component that constitutes approximately 10% – 15% of the gasoline pool in the U.S. Besides the ability to increase octane and lower Reid vapor pressure (RVP) in the gasoline pool, alkylate also reduce vehicles exhaust emissions with zero olefins, zero aromatics and low sulfur.
Orlen Lietuva Contracts DuPont Clean Technologies for STRATCO® Alkylation Technolology
WILMINGTON, Del., DuPont Clean Technologies (DuPont) has been awarded the contract to supply ORLEN Lietuva (ORLEN) with licensing, engineering, and technical services for a STRATCO® alkylation unit and a MECS® spent acid regeneration (SAR) unit at the Mažeikiai refinery in Mažeikiai, Lithuania. The Mažeikiai refinery processes an average of 8 million tons of crude per year with capacity of up to 10 million tons of crude per year. In order to increase refinery complexity and flexibility of the Mažeikiai refinery, ORLEN commissioned DuPont for a STRATCO® alkylation unit with 240 kmta (6,000 bpsd) alkylate capacity. The alkylation unit will utilize LPG in the conversion to alkylate, and therefore upgrade refinery profitability. The 75 mtpd MECS® SAR unit, also under license from DuPont, will provide the refinery with a consistent supply of sulfuric acid, which is utilized as the catalyst for the alkylation unit, while ensuring compliance with the region’s stringent emission regulations.
